AEW has made a good living going after the WWE from Cody Rhodes destroying Triple H’s throne to various promos and comments made during promos.
During this week’s AEW Dynamite and Rampage TV tapings (August 24), Undisputed ARE World Champion Jon Moxley came out and addressed the crowd, and fired the next shot at WWE.
Undisputed AEW World Champion Jon Moxley Called WWE Raw and Smackdown “Bullsh—”
With the shows finished taping, Moxley thanked the fans, and then went on to tell them to have their friends that watch WWE to tune in on Wednesdays.
Special thanks to Wrestlefeed.app for the transcript.
“AEW fans are the best fans in the world. The best fans, the most fun I’ve ever had is wrestling for you. So we promise to keep busting our a–es if you keep promising to support AEW.
“You watch us on TV. You tell your friends if they’re watching that Monday night, Friday night bullsh–, say ‘You gotta check out Wednesdays, man. Wednesdays are where it’s at.’
“Come back next time and bring your friends. Tell them to bring two friends. Next time we’re back here in Cleveland, let’s sell this place out.”
This isn’t surprising since AEW has done this since their debut, but the fact it wasn’t televised could be telling.
Shots fired?
Since Vince McMahon retired and Triple H took over as head of WWE Creative, AEW hasn’t taken as many shots at them as previously, and doing this off camera could be their way to avoid doing so.
There’s a belief that Triple H won’t have a problem in taking a shot back at them, but that’s what AEW arguably wants.
Since AEW hasn’t faced the WWE directly aside of NXT and haven’t take any market shares from them or anything like that, it’s hard to look at the two companies as competition, though under Vince the WWE seemed to act like they were at times.
Here’s the thing, if Triple H responds in any way he’ll be validating AEW. While he may not mind that as a wrestling fan, it could give AEW a bigger boost and make them a threat, if one wants to look at it that way.
We have to admit it’s hard to imagine one of the architects behind DeGeneration X wouldn’t respond in some way, but Triple H has grown since then and it becomes a question of does it benefit the WWE?
Obviously, Moxley wants AEW fans to introduce their WWE friends to the product and that’s great. I used to bounce back and forth between WWE Raw and WCW Nitro every Monday during the Monday Night Wars.
This is fun for wrestling fans.
Do you think Triple H will retaliate, or will AEW keep their WWE attacks “off camera”? Let us know in the comments below.
