Now that the WWE is under new management with Stephanie McMahon and Nick Kahn as Co-CEOs and Triple H as the head of WWE Creative, there’s a chance WWE will start responding to AEW’s jabs.
Since they started in 2019, AEW has taken shot after shot at the WWE and Vince McMahon and Triple H shrugged them off. The reasons could be numerous, with the most obvious being if they responded they’d give AEW credibility.
Will DeGeneration X Lead a WWE Invasion of AEW?
Plus, their shareholders may not look kindly on a back and forth between the companies for various reasons. But this is a new WWE without Vince living in his bubble with a billion dollar streaming deal with Peacock to insulate him.
While that and other deals remain in place, Vince seemed complacent with the company and product, and it showed in the lack of quality we were given.
An DX style invasion to come?
Billy Corgan for one doesn’t expect Triple H to sit back and accept AEW taking pot shots with them and he explained his thoughts with Chris Van Vliet.
But will the WWE remain silent if AEW continues to throw shots at them? NWA’s Billy Corgan isn’t so sure. Special thanks to Wrestlingnews.co for the transcript.
“I do know, well, it’s a speculation, so I’m going to say that I’m speculating, I do know that AEW has gone out of their way to sort of try to pick fights with the WWE world, and overall, the WWE world has not responded. I don’t necessarily think that’s going to continue under Triple H. I just don’t feel he’s the type of personality that’s just going to sit there and have people sock him in the chops over and over again and he’s not going to respond. I mean, he was in D-Generation X, you know what I mean? I think he was a big part of that sort of sass that they had, and I think there’s business there as well. You know, at some point, it’s blow for blow. It’s competitive. Now, the general position, of course, I think WWE corporately, at least from what I see from a public observation point of view, is they’ve sort of treated it like, we’re not going to sweat it publicly, even if we’re sweating a little bit privately. I think those dynamics are definitely changing.”
This immediately brought to mind the DX invasion of WCW headquarters during the Monday Night War, and it’s something we can definitely see Triple H doing at some point.
Do you think Triple H will retaliate if AEW keeps knocking the WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
