Being announced to be part of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament is huge for Nikkita Lyons. But tonight she looks to remind everyone why she’s one of the top singles stars in the NXT 2.0 Women’s division. Taking on Kiana James will hopefully allow her to show the world just how good she truly can be. James has been proving her skills in the ring lately, touting herself as the smartest woman in the division – and will have crunched the numbers ahead of this match.
Kiana James Makes A Single Mistake Against Nikkita Lyons
Lyons would be driven to the corner as this match began, before James would grab a headlock. She’d shove her way free before dropping James with a shoulder tackle – before having her arm wrenched. Lyons would rush into the corner, and was caught with her leg in the ropes, and had it stomped into the mat. James knows that leg was recently injured, and is more than willing to put Lyons back on the shelf.
On the floor, James would avoid a kick from Lyons – forcing an impact on the steel steps instead. James would twist the leg of Lyons in the ring, trying to force the early submission – before Lyons was able to fight free, but took a boot to the face. Lyons was able to hit some kicks to regain her footing, before messing up a cannonball senton in the corner.
James would try to steal the win with a rope assisted roll up. Lyons would take advantage of the ensuing argument with the referee, nailing the kick to the face before the leg drop pinfall for the victory. After the bell, James would beat Lyons down with a cheap shot – showing this issue is perhaps far from finished.
The Gloves Are Off With Lee vs. Williams II
When Wes Lee & Trick Williams last met in NXT, Williams would cheat to get the win. Tonight, we get the rematch – under some unique rules by NXT 2.0 standards. It’s a British Rounds match, meaning six three minute rounds. Competitors will get 30 seconds between rounds to recover, and it’s best two out of three falls – or a KO victory. This will keep the action fast, both men focused – and show us who the better wrestler is on this night.
Williams comes in with the reach, height and overall size advantage. Both men had boxing gloves on, and the first round would just be Lee dodging the punches of Williams before being taken down to the mat. Williams would get rocked with a punch to the head after Lee turned this takedown around, before nailing a knee to the midsection.
Some heavy blows in the corner would follow from Williams, with Lee able to turn things around as the round closed out. Williams was saved by the bell, and the gloves were off for the second round. Lee would start round two with a monkey flip and a series of arm drags, before nailing the dropkick. Williams fled to the outside, and would be hit with a big dive. Carmelo Hayes ran a distraction, and less than sixty seconds into round two? Williams scored the first pinfall.
Wes Lee Overcomes The Slow Start
Round three would start with Lee being hit with a Stinger Splash in the corner, before having his face driven into the turnbuckle. Lee was quickly being overwhelmed, and a body slam would get a two count. Williams would throw some wild strikes, with Lee dodging and getting a two count off a sunset flip. Lee would try to apply the Single Leg Boston Crab, but Williams would be saved by the bell
At ringside, Hayes would try to re-glove Williams, getting the left one on before round four began. Lee would stick to wrestling, getting a two count off a sunset flip. He’d be thrown into the corner, but would manage a crucifix pinfall to even the score 1-1.
After the fall, Lee would be punched in the jaw – a cheap shot that allowed Williams to start round five on the offensive, with a leaping lariat and a bodyslam. A pop up punch would allow for the two count, but Lee was sticking in this fight. Lee would nail the kick to the face, before Williams would be forced onto the ropes. Williams was punched in the jaw, and Lee got the 2-1 win in the fifth round.
After this match, Carmelo Hayes would be called out for a title shot – with both Giovanni Vinci wanting his shot at NXT 2.0 Heatwave next week. Will this triple threat match be made official? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
