Last night during AEW All Out – one match went significantly shorter than anyone could have expected. The long awaited grudge match between Christian Cage & ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry went a mere 30 seconds. However, this was not always the plan – but injuries forced AEW to have to think on the fly to ensure the show could go on.
Christian Cage Being Injured Forced AEW To Rebook The Match
When Christian Cage ws making his way to the ring, many took note of a very large brace on his right elbow. Prior to the show, there were reports of an elbow injury suffered by the veteran, but the extent was unknown. He hit the ring like normal, before Jungle Boy would make his entrance, being addressed as “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry for the first time in his AEW career.
This was followed by Luchasaurus once again betraying his former tag partner, chokeslaming him onto the hot pyro grid, and powerbombing him through a table. Chrisitian would follow this with a spear and Killswitch in the ring – ending the match in shockingly short fashion.
The match made for a memorable moment – and would have been better than letting Christian wrestle injured. His injury is reported as being severe, but might have not exactly been his elbow. The true injury remains undisclosed at this time, as does the time that Christian will be out of action.
Saved The Match From Being Ruined By Tired Crowd?
This might end up being a good thing in the long run however. While fans were already eager to see Christian get his comeuppance after months of tormenting Jack Perry, the match was in the middle of a PPV that fans were already complaining about the length of. All Out had 15 matches booked, and even with this one going very short – was a long show.
AEW now has the chance to instead keep the fires of this angle burning, with Jack Perry vs. Luchasaurus a potential Dynamite main event in the coming weeks. The planned match could find it’s way onto Full Gear later this – or be saved for a big TV event, with the potential of the Lights Out stipulation also possible.
