An Indiana man was arrested for shooting three Dutch soldiers in Indianapolis for military training and killing one. Shamar Duncan (22) is the culprit of the act of violence which took place on August 27, 2022.
Indiana Man Charged in Shooting That Injured 2 Dutch Soldiers and Killing 1
The Dutch soldiers were participating in combat training at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center while staying at the Hampton Inn. At around 4 AM on South Meridian Street, the soldier got into a disagreement with Duncan and his friends resulting in shots being fired.
Reports from locals said that Duncan’s party seemed to be looking for trouble in the early hours.
One soldier, Simmie Poetsema (26), was dead when officers and emergency services arrived. According to the Indianapolis PD, Poetsema was shot in the back of the head.
Duncan was the person who escalated the situation and simply answered “I just sp*zzed” when a friend confronted him about the shooting.
The other two soldiers were taken to a hospital in the area for treatment. At the time, they were listed in critical condition but both men were able to return to the Netherlands.
Shamar Duncan was arrested on August 29, two days after the shooting. On September 1, he was charged with two counts of attempted murder, murder, and disorderly conduct.
