Sticking with the midwestern U.S, a meth binge went from bad to worse to “What are you doing with your life” after a 60-year-old Indiana man dismembered his 61-year-old girlfriend with a chainsaw after she died.
Indiana Man Arrested After Chopping GF Up with Chainsaw After She Died – Police Found Remains in 2 Garbage Bags
Edward Bagwell and Rita Spigner smoked meth on June 16, 2022 and by July 4, he was still high. In speaking with police, Bagwell said that Spigner began scratching her leg which irritated him and resulted in him slapping her. At that point, she began to convulse so Bagwell left to get his phone.
Upon returning, he found Rita Spigner unresponsive and opted not to call 911 as he believed she was already dead. Bagwell’s mindset was that the 61-year-old couldn’t be helped.
Bagwell would grab his electric chainsaw and separate the woman’s torso and legs. Her remains were put into two garbage bags. He would tell a friend that he had dismembered Rita after her death and the friend contacted the police.
Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Department arrived to perform a wellness check. There, they would find the garbage bag and the woman’s remains. An autopsy showed that Spigner died of heart problems.
Edward Bagwell was charged with the abuse of a corpse and failure to report human remains. He is still in custody in the Benton County Jail with a $300,000 bail.
