New York Man Sentenced in the 2019 Murder and Disposal of His Mother in Manhattan
On February 4, 2019, Jared Eng contacted authorities to report his mother, 65-year-old Paula Ching, missing and said that he hadn’t seen or hear from her in a couple of days. As we now know, Eng stabbed and beat Ms. Ching then contacted his friends about how his “problem” had been handled and that he was now free.
Those friends—Jennifer Lopez and Caitlyn O’Rourke—also helped him move the body to his family home in Morristown, New Jersey. They also helped in cleaning up the scene of the murder. It was also revealed that he was romantically involved with his co-conspirators.
Ultimately, it was determined that he murdered Paula Ching in a bid to collect on his inheritance. In speaking with the New York Post, Jared Eng mentioned that his mother was worth millions—$10 million to be exact—and that he and his brother were supposed to get an inheritance from their father when they turned 35.
The will stated everything went to Paula Ching but if she died the brothers would split the inheritance. He had begun changing the passwords for bank accounts and his search history turned up inquiries into inheritance lawyers and body disposal methods.
Eng’s accomplices were both charged with three counts of tampering with physical evidence and hindering the prosecution. They also face charges for hiding Ching’s body. Jared Eng will face sentencing on October 18, 2022.
