Over the past few years, we’ve seen some massive growth from New Japan Pro Wrestling. After many years of sticking to what they knew in Japan, they would make moves to gain a bigger following in the United States with NJPW Strong. This has been a success, with tapings selling out and PPV’s gaining high praise. Now, they’re looking to do the same in another region with NJPW TAMASHII.
NJPW TAMASHII To Bring More NJPW Shows To Australia & New Zealand
This would be formally announced by NJPW with a press statement. It’s something they’ve been trying to get off the ground for a few years now, and the following would be announced.
“New Japan Pro-Wrestling is excited to announce the November launch of NJPW TAMASHII, a new brand that will see the best of NJPW in Japan compete with the cream of NJPW’s New Zealand Dojo, as well as the best talents from Australasia.
Meaning ‘spirit’, or ‘soul’, TAMASHII is the logical continuation of the philosophy behind NJPW STRONG in the United States, which has seen established names from NJPW compete with brand new prospects emerging from NJPW’s LA Dojo, as well as the best from the local scene.
The first NJPW TAMASHII event will take place on November 11 in the Pioneer Recreation & Sport Center in Christchurch New Zealand. Sunday November 13 will see TAMASHII hit Liberty Hall in Sydney Australia.
Already signed for the debut NJPW TAMASHII events are big names from BULLET CLUB. KENTA, who wrestled on the very first official match for NJPW STRONG in 2020, is joined by IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori and the Rogue general Bad Luck Fale.
Fale is the principal force behind NJPW’s New Zealand Dojo, the rising prospects of which are set to be highlighted and developed through TAMASHII events, having already been focused on in the Lion’s Roar docuseries on NJPW World.
‘This was once the most popular professional wrestling territory in the world,’ Fale commented. ‘Now with so much talent in Australasia, it was logical to expand the New Japan brand in the territory. We’re very excited for what the future holds.’
A Place For JONAH As Top Dog
With JONAH recently becoming a potential main event star during the G1 Climax – it’s likely that him and the rest of TMDK will become some of the instant top stars of NJPW TAMASHII. Bad Luck Fale has been slowing down in the ring, but has been building some incredible talents over the past few years in the New Zealand dojo – and they’re about to get a global spotlight.
Moves like this can only help NJPW to grow as a company. They remain the #1 promotion in Japan, with their main competition being their sister company of Stardom. That position allows them to look to outside regions like this. It’s similar to what WWE is trying to do with their NXT UK & NXT Europe plans, with a potential NXT India still in the works.
