Just a few short months ago, Claudio Castagnoli was ROH World Champion, and Wheeler Yuta was ROH Pure Champion. Now, both belts are held by the Jericho Appreciation Society – with Chris Jericho as ROH World Champion, and Daniel Garcia as ROH Pure Champion. Yuta & Claudio have a chance to get back into the title hunt for these belts tonight, as they meet Jericho & Garcia in a big time tag team match. Jericho will be wary of giving Claudio another shot after narrowly defeating him at Grand Slam – but a loss tonight would make it hard to deny the challenge.
Chris Jericho & Daniel Garcia Keep The Numbers Advantage
Jericho would kick things off with Castagnoli, and some trash talk would earn him so stiff european uppercuts. Garcia would get the tag, and ran right into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Yuta would get the tag, and hit a double big boot alongside Castagnoli, before a dropkick and a crank to the arm. Garcia would be able to hit a headbutt to find an opening, shutting down aggressive strikes from Yuta in the corner.
Yuta would be able to catch Garcia with a scoop slam before a senton splash, before Jericho rushed the ring. Castagnoli would stop Jericho in his tracks, and hit Hammer & Anvil Elbows alongside Yuta. Jake Hager would run a distraction, allowing for Angelo Parker to save Garcia. Back in the ring, Castagnoli would hit a running uppercut, before setting up the Giant Swing – but taking kicks to the face instead.
Jericho would get the tag and traded strikes with Castagnoli. The distraction of Hager would allow for Jericho to nail the Triangle Dropkick, sending him down to the floor. Jericho would get the attention of the referee, allowing Hager to get some quick blows in. Back in the ring, Jericho would hit a stiff enziguri, and tagged in Garcia to get some blows in.
Claudio Castagnoli Is Not Human
Yuta would be eager for a tag, but the ring was firmly cut in half. Castagnoli would catch Jericho with a suplex, but Garcia was quick to prevent the tag. A rear chinlock from Garcia would be countered into a suplex, a feat that only an athlete like Castagnoli is capable of. Jericho would try for a Codebreaker, but it was easily blocked before Swiss Death Uppercut.
Yuta would get the tag and dived in with a splash, and the second Garcia hit the ring – would take him down. Painthriller would land on Jericho, before Castagnoli would look for the springboard uppercut, only to take the Codebreaker. Yuta would take down Garica, Angelo Parker & Matt Menard on the floor, while Castagnoli hit Jericho with a powerbomb in the ring.
Castagnoli would get Jericho by the legs and Garcia on his shoulder, before spinning both men. Jake Hager took a rolling senton, Menard a uppercut, Garcia a running foot stomp, and Parker a running uppercut. Finally, he’d hit Jericho with the Neutralizer – and this one was over! It’ll be hard for Jericho to deny a challenge to the former champion.
Teasing The Elite
Following this match, we’d see a video package showing The Elite being burned away from the AEW roster. This was the first we’ve seen of Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks since All Out 2022, where they won the AEW World Trios Championships, but were suspended following a backstage brawl with CM Punk.
It seems like they’re making their way back to TV soon, maybe humbled by AEW soldiering on without them. We will have more on the situation involving The Elite soon, and hope to see them back on TV very soon. Are you excited to see The Elite return?
