In California, Border Patrol agents in the El Centro Sector dealt with a suspect riding in a cloned Border Patrol SUV. Sometimes, the U.S Border Patrol doesn’t deal with human or drug trafficking, illegal entry, or undeclared goods.
California Border Patrol Arrests Driver Who Initiated Chase in Cloned Border Patrol SUV
Just before 6:30 PM on October 1, 2022, El Centro’s Remote Video Surveillance System Operations spotted a suspected bogus Border Patrol Chevy Tahoe speeding east on Highway 98 and north of Exit 6 in Calexico, California.
Of course, agents attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver continued east. The bogus vehicle was finally stopped after an agent deployed spike strips. When agents converged on the cloned SUV, the 18-year-old suspect made off on foot but was stopped almost immediately.
A search of the cloned SUV found that it was a bogus vehicle made up to look like Border Patrol vehicle. Agents also found that the suspect was a citizen of the U.S and that he was the only person inside. Chief Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino said of the capture:
“The border in El Centro Sector is closed, and this is yet another example of our zero tolerance for smuggling and illegal entry. I am so proud of El Centro border security professionals who make it awfully hard on smugglers to ply their trade here!”
