The purported tension between Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, has been the subject of a new book.
According to new snippets from royal insider Valentine Low’s new book “Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown,” Markle allegedly became “obsessed” with the palace disputing reports of any division between her and Kate Middleton. When Markle was getting ready to marry into the royal family in 2018, the British media spread the story that she had made Middleton cry during a dress fitting.
Meghan Markle Was “Obsessed” With The Palace’s Denial Of a Dispute With Kate Middleton
Page Six has uncovered an excerpt in which Low said, “The truth is that after the dress fitting, Meghan had become obsessed with trying to persuade the palace press office to put something out denying the story.” According to Low, the palace “were equally adamant that it would be a serious mistake to start briefing about personal stories relating to differences between members of the Royal Family,” thus assertions were not contested.
Markle’s main complaint was that nobody moved forward to address the media’s misrepresentation of her narrative. Also, Low mentioned that the palace did not wish to “fan the flames of the story.” In a 2021 discussion with Oprah Winfrey, after they had stepped down from their previous royal positions, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle addressed rumors that Markle had been responsible for her sister-in-law’s tears by saying that the blame should be placed squarely on Kate Middleton.
She told Oprah she was upset about something just before the wedding, “pertaining, yes – the issue was correct about the flower girl dresses, and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings.”
According to Katie Nicholl‘s “The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown,” the controversy was about Middleton’s daughter Charlotte and her wedding attire. “Kate and Meghan disagreed over whether or not Charlotte should wear tights with her dress. Meghan wanted bare legs; Kate felt covered was more appropriate for her daughter on such a formal occasion.”
I don’t believe it’s fair to her to delve into that intricacies because “she apologized…and I’ve forgiven her,” Markle told Oprah. According to the 41-year-old, Middleton “owned it and she apologized and she brought me flowers, and a note apologizing… she did what I would do if I knew that I had hurt someone.”
The American-born actress told Oprah, “What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do, but that happened to me.” Additionally, guests at our wedding have approached our communications team with the assurance, “I know this didn’t happen.” Markle remarked, regarding the scandal, “I think it’s really important for people to understand the truth,” “I would hope, that she [Middleton] would have wanted that corrected and maybe in the same way that the palace wouldn’t let anybody else negate it, they wouldn’t let her, because she’s a good person.
I think so much of what I have seen play out is this idea of polarity, where if you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t need to hate me.” The sister-in-law’s relationship is still strained to this day. The Middleton/Markle saga continues even though the two are rarely seen in public together and are currently based in different countries.
