A New South Wales man has been guilty in the March 2019 vehicular assault and axe murder of her ex-wife’s partner. Thanh Tran (79) of Cabramatta West confessed to hitting 59-year-old Pok Min Fah with his car before exiting and striking the man in the head with an axe on March 14, 2019.

The odd thing here is that he pleaded not guilty to murder but to manslaughter. He claimed that his judgment was clouded by having lived under Pol Pot’s regime in Cambodia and the trauma caused a loss of control.
It’s quite the defense and change from his initial defense of self-defense and a later sit down with a psychiatrist where he claims that Fah appeared threatening. During the trial, his lawyer went with a PTSD defense which didn’t fly with the NSW Supreme Court jury.
After two days of deliberation, they found Thanh Tran guilty on October 11, 2022. He has yet to be scheduled for sentencing.
