According to royal analyst Duncan Larcombe, Prince Harry’s decision to leave prominent royal duties in 2020 with his wife Meghan Markle to pursue their own career in the United States was not met with the joy and pleasure that he may have hoped for.
Despite having a loving wife and family, professional success, and a lavish mansion, Larcombe told Fox News Digital that Harry, 38, “looks like he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.” The sorrowful expression on Harry’s face was noted by Larcombe. He continued, “I’ve watched him closely since he was a teenager, for my work, and I feel that if Harry is as happy as he is telling us, as he and Meghan tell us they are, he needs to quickly tell his face.”
Prince Harry ‘Sacrificed’ Everything For a ‘Normal Life’,’ Expert Says
Larcombe wrote “Prince Harry: The Inside Story” about the Duke of Sussex in 2017, detailing his life from his days at elite boarding school Eton to his military service and romantic endeavors. He explained to Fox News Digital that Harry has always tried to achieve one goal, but has never been able to. “Children dream of one day being a prince,” Larcombe tries to put things in perspective. “Harry, his whole life, has dreamed of one day being normal.” “And I honestly don’t think, and I’m not alone in thinking that, Harry simply has not found that dream.”
In an interview for the 2021 Apple TV+ documentary series “The Me You Can’t See,” Harry opened up on his problems with the media scrutiny that comes with being a royal and his yearning for a normal existence. He finally came clean about his desire to be “just Harry” instead of “Prince Harry”: “I always wanted to be normal.” In the show, Harry reflected on how good it felt when he finally settled into a routine during his time in the military.
Without a doubt, the ten years he spent serving in the military were the happiest of his life, as he told Winfrey. “Because I got to wear the same uniform as everybody else. I had to do all the same training as everybody else. I started from the bottom like everybody else.” “There was no special treatment because of who I was,” he added. “That was where I felt my most normal.”
According to Larcombe, Harry may have believed that he might achieve the average life he had always sought by escaping the royal spotlight and beginning over in the United States. Larcombe, on the other hand, thinks Harry has failed to achieve his goal because his current life is not all that different from his old one. “Because all he has, he already had,” he reasoned.
Keeping on, Larcombe said “If Harry wanted to reach out to Steven Spielberg or Barack Obama, anyone, he could have, ever since he was 18. So, there’s no novelty for him being top of the tree in Los Angeles.” What we’re witnessing, therefore, is a prince who, to tell the truth, appears to have sacrificed everything for very little reward. Unless, he said, “it’s just a lovely love story,” which it might be; only time will tell.
According to Larcombe’s interview with Fox News Digital, Harry has two big problems. He added that the response to Queen Elizabeth II‘s death would show Harry and Meghan they were losing the “popularity contest” with the royal family. Harry also has to make the difficult decision of whether or not to move through with projects that could further harm the royal family. A royal analyst warned that if Harry goes ahead with the plans, he could damage his relationship with Prince William.
“Harry will also know that he cannot continue the life he has set for himself in California where he is up for sale to the highest bidder with Meghan and continue to choose a relationship with his brother, and frankly, even play any kind of significant role in his own brother’s life,” Larcombe said.
After two weeks of mourning Queen Elizabeth, Harry and Meghan returned to their home in Montecito, California on September 20—the day after the funeral. According to Larcombe, the swiftness with which they left indicated that they had concluded the royals were still wary of them. The Royals “will not say anything secret or even deeply personal in front of Harry because of the fear that he will betray them,” he added, explaining why Harry left as soon as possible the following morning. “
“So, he’s got a massive journey to try and mend that rift,” Larcombe shared. If the two once-close brothers wanted to make amends, they would have to make some tough decisions, according to Larcombe. He did, however, express optimism that William and Harry’s longstanding friendship would help them mend their differences. “Deep down, they’re both good guys. And they’re both very close,”
To quote Larcombe: When he proceeded, “Emotionally, they’re very close. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t have been able to walk side by side behind the Queen’s coffin. Deep down there is hope that they’ll make up for it.” What signs of affection Harry and Meghan will send back across the Atlantic remain to be seen, the royal analyst further reflected.
