Elon Musk just acquired Twitter after months of negotiations and immediately started working on the main issue of the platform – the bots.
After just a day since Elon Musk took over the platform, random Twitter users report losing thousands of followers. While most people think that it is due to ‘cleaning’ the platform from bots, a different version also circles the internet.
Twitter Users Lose Thousands Of Followers As Elon Musk’s Team Starts Cleaning The Bots – Or Are People Deactivating Twitter?
The other theory behind the massive loss of followers is that Twitter users protest against Elon Musk’s platform takeover. It is possible that they massively deactivate their accounts, following numerous celebrities that announced that since April.
Numerous newsletters and outlets reached out to Twitter for comment on this. However, the company has been silent. There is no official information on why numerous Twitter accounts face these follower losses.
“Wow. People do seem to be getting rid of their Twitter accounts. I’ve lost about 700 followers, I think, in the last few hours. Are others experiencing something similar?” – one Twitter user noticed.
“I lost some followers last night. I’m not sure if it was bot cleaning which I doubt since Musk loves bots so I am wondering if some people have left Twitter and closed their accounts.” – Doctor Henry CT reported.
People are not certain that this is the bot cleaning process. A similar situation happened in the very beginning when Elon Musk announced he will take over Twitter. People then reported a decrease in followers as well. For example, US Congressman Matt Gaetz said that he is down by 16 000 followers in just a couple of hours.
Elon Musk is a bold character. People expected him to be strict once he takes over Twitter. However, we couldn’t imagine that he would immediately start firing people. Nevertheless, he stepped into the office and immediately fired three of Twitter’s top executives.
As soon as Elon Musk took the wheel in his hand he fired Former CEO Parag Agrawal immediately. Furthermore, he fired the CFO Ned Segal, and Chief Legal Officer Vijaya Gadde. The billionaire has had a dispute with all three of them even before he stepped into office. This showed in the unsealed court documents for the dismissed Twitter trial. There were conversations between Elon Musk and Parag Agrawal that suggested that the two were not in good relations.
The billionaire hasn’t appointed people in their place still. Having in mind that he announced to let go of 75% of Twitter’s staff, he might even leave the positions vacant for some time. Or take over in their place himself. What do you think of Elon Musk’s takeover? Will he make the platform better, or worse?
