After Solo Sikoa strolled into the final episode of the NXT 2.0 era to end the NXT North American Championship reign of Carmelo Hayes, the belt was left vacant. Hayes wouldn’t just be handed the belt after ducking the challenge of Wes Lee, but earned a free spot in this five way ladder match. Lee would qualify, alongside former NXT UK tag team champion Oro Mensah, the intimidating powerhouse Von Wagner, and the prodigy of Nathan Frazer. The NXT North American Championship has a rich history of epic ladder matches, and tonight we add another chapter to that book, as only one man can become champion.
Instant Carnage In Five Way Ladder Match
All five men would stare up at the prize hanging above, before Hayes would look to leave the ring for a ladder – and took a superkick from Lee. They’d brawl on the floor, as Wagner would go after Mensah & Frazer on his own – being sent from the ring with a double superkick, before Mensah was dropped by Frazer. Having cleared the ring, Frazer would come off the top rope onto Wagner on the floor, before a ladder reached the ring.
Lee would be trapped between the corner and the ladder by Frazer before Hayes would kick it into Lee. Frazer would again clear the ring, and started the climb – only to be stopped by Mensah and dropped with the Exploder Suplex. Lee would be able to stop Mensah’s climb, before Hayes would take Lee down and try to crush him with a ladder.
Wagner would hit the ring, only to take a kick to the knee. He’d throw a ladder at Lee, missed – but nailed the big boot to the face. Mensah would be hit face first with the ladder, before Frazer would be powerbombed into the ladder. Lee would go to the top rope, but had the ladder hit into his face. Wagner was the last man standing, and would start the climb before Hayes would quickly stop him.
La Mistica would take Wagner down, before Lee would use the ladder to crush Wagner. Mensah would hit a Fame Asser onto the ladder, before a lionsault put Lee out of the fight. Hayes would hit the Fade Away, with Williams setting up the ladder for extra damage. The springboard lariat was attempted, but Frazer caught him and hit a reverse spanish fly onto the ladder.
Wagner would try for the climb, but Frazer was able to stop him. Mensah tried to end this match, but Trick Williams was there to tilt the ladder. Robert Stone would look to get to the top before Williams could, only to be sent tumbling from the ring. A few moments would pass with bodies all about the ringside area, before Von Wagner would almost get a fan in the crowd trying to pull a massive ladder from under the ring.
Lee would stop the ladder from reaching the ring, before putting Wagner across it – the ladder going from the ring to the barricade. Frazer would break it in half, and Wagner too with the frog splash. Lee would dive onto Frazer, before a knee strike from Mensah. Hayes used the barricade for the springboard lariat, before Lee jumped off the steel steps.
Back in the ring, Lee would set up a ladder – only be press slammed from the ring off the announce table by Wagner. Frazer was the only one able to stop Wagner, before he’d almost be powerbombed from the ring. A frankensteiner would take both men out to the floor, and Menash took Frazer down as both men looked to make the climb. Carmelo Hayes would take them down and almost claim the win, before Lee would somehow make his way into the ring. He’d slam the face of Hayes into a ladder, climb the ladder – and claimed the belt.
