During the secondary inspection of the tractor-trailer, the unbeatable non-intrusive inspection and drug-sniffing dog combo turned an actual ton of meth among the paint buckets. When the drugs were confiscated and weighed, the haul came out to 2,033 pounds with a street value of $18,694,838.
Yes, CBP weighed it down to the dollar. Port Director Albert Flores said of the seizure:
“Officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have heightened their enforcement strategy when targeting these high-risk commodities, successfully disrupting the flow of deadly narcotics from entering our country. This exceptional drug bust was an outstanding operation that highlights CBP’s commitment in combatting the crimes carried out by transnational criminal organizations.”
As is the procedure, the methamphetamine was taken in by the Customs and Border Protection agency while the smuggler and investigation into the seizure is being handled by ICE.
CBP seized the narcotics. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents are investigating the seizure.
