The latest episode of Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast is all about sexuality, freedom, and fulfillment. Meghan Markle is joined by the Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell. She speaks about the treatment of women in entertainment. The second companion is the trans actress Michaela Jae Rodriquezas. She speaks about the labels she received in her early days at school.
The trio spoke about their identities and their views on sexuality and sex. Meghan Markle especially targeted the older group of women, currently in their late 40s and 50s, as they get the greatest gossip attacks of what they do now vs how they were sl*ts in college.
There Should Be No Slut-Shaming Of Women – Meghan Markle Wants You To Be A Slut And Explore Your Sexuality
The trio especially stuck to one detail – comparing the treatment of men that are the same age. They agreed that men who slept with more women during their college and early adolescent years are praised for their ‘skills’. Meghan Markle pointed out that there is no such thing as a man slut. Instead, society calls them ‘players’, which is quite different from the labels women get.
“As you’re getting older, you’re exploring and starting to understand your sensuality, your feminine divine.” – Meghan Markle said. “But your sexuality can be very much used against you… a man is a player or out having fun or whatever he’s doing, it’s often celebrated, even heralded. But for a woman, I don’t care if she is perhaps the most successful woman in finance in her mid-50s I promise you someone will still come and say ‘yeah, but she was such a sl*t in college’. It will stick with her.
I don’t understand what it is about the stigma surrounding women and their sexuality, the exploration of their sexuality that is so much more vilified than for a man and I wonder what that experience.” – the Duchess explained her confusion and frustration.
As a woman coming from the entertainment business, Meghan Markle considers herself someone who knows how the entertainment industry treats women. However, she received a massive backlash about exactly this recently. In a recent episode of her podcast, she told how people saw her only as a bimbo when she starred on the ‘Deal Or No Deal’ show. She got massively criticized by women who worked with her, and she received wide criticism from the public.
The Duchess of Sussex opened the episode with a speech about a particular painting in her $14 million mansion in California. She spoke about how she sees this piece of art as something that speaks so much to her.
“There’s a piece of art in my sitting room – it’s not fancy. It’s kind of this rectangle shape, almost plaque-like. And it just says simply ”humankind” – be both.” – Meghan Markle said. “My friend, Jen gave it to me a couple of days ago and it always makes me smile.
Because I love her and our friendship – it reminds me of her, we’ve been super close since we were about 17 – but also, because it’s true. Humankind – be both. It has me thinking about other types of wordplay that resonate and I specifically think about something that someone told me many years ago. You’re not just a human being, you’re a human just being.”
“Now the woman who told me this was trying to remind me to just be easier on myself, sort of in the same vein of saying don’t let perfect be the enemy of good. Well, this is just another version of that same ilk of advice. You’re human, just human.” – the Duchess added.
Meghan Markle spoke about her early days and spoke about how she wanted to explore the schools where she studied. She told how she wants to explore the new labels that children give to themselves. At last, she wants to see if they finally ‘gave themselves space to be human’.
I wanted to explore these labels and boxes are part of the self-identification for the young women there,’ she says. ‘Or if they gave themselves the space to be a human’. She tells that every time she visits the school, she feels the memories coming back to her. She sees young Meghan Markle running to the classrooms, happy, and unaware of all the labels and boxes that surround her.
“It’s so great because as an adult you come back into this environment, it feels so small. But when you’re in high school at this campus was so big. Middle school and high school is a really big time for anyone in their life. You’re so impressionable and you also think you know everything when you’re a teenager. But for young women especially this is the time period in which you sort of start to look around. Around the culture and society, the messages you’re receiving, and you ask yourself constantly, how should I be? At least that was very much. My experience of adolescence and maybe things have changed.”
The Duchess asked her guests to elaborate on the labels of their time in their schools. Encouraged to share some of the words – they mentioned a few.
Duchesses’ guests mentioned Bossy, b*tch, bimbo, and slut. Meghan seemed particularly interested in the word bimbo. As we all know, she has a connection with it from her past and from the recent backlash.
“So, when you guys hear the word bimbo, whom do you think of or what do you think of?” – Meghan Markle asked. “I mean talk about aging myself. But this idea of the bimbo, the dumb blond, this was something that I grew up seeing all the time. And here we go, they hadn’t.”
People show immense repulsion for the Archetypes podcast. This trend started after her ‘bimbo’ comments. The podcast topped the lists when it aired. However, now it is in 80th place on the popular podcast charts.
