Halloween was apparently the smugglers’ Monday off but they were back at it on November 1, 2022 when CBP officers at the Veterans International Bridge stopped another Brownsville native.
Texas Border Patrol Officers Seize 11 Pounds of Coke at Border Crossing – Estimated Street Value of Over $150K
The suspect this time was an 18-year-old who arrived at the checkpoint in a 2009 Dodge. During the secondary inspection, the non-intrusive inspection system detected the presence of something in the vehicle. That’s enough to go rooting around since it could be something illegal or undeclared.
Officers turned up five packages hidden inside. Again, the hiding method wasn’t mentioned either because it wasn’t of note or was hidden so poorly that it wasn’t worth detailing in the report.
Once tested and weighed, CBP confiscated 11.41 pounds of coke with a street value of $152,478.
The driver was arrested before being turned over to Homeland Security along with cocaine and the Dodge. This bust was just the second in a four-day big bust run for the U.S Customs and Border Patrol.
Brownsville Port Director Tater Ortiz didn’t speculate or weigh in on if the coke runs were all related as in from the same source or part of a drug ring.
