We’re returning to the Brownsville Port of Entry where a woman was arrested for smuggling cocaine across the Veterans International Bridge. Her case should sound familiar as she was one of two women arrested over a course of four busts in the port of entry—only she provided more background into why she was smuggling drugs.
Woman Arrested with 30 Pounds of Cocaine Files Federal Complaint After Admitting That She Worked for Drug Smugglers in Matamoros
On November 3, 2022, Cesilia Garcia (25) went before Magistrate Judge Ignacio Torteya III and was denied bail. She was scheduled for another court appearance on November 8 but the details of that appearance weren’t released just yet.
She would file a federal criminal complaint that she was paid by drug smuggling group to move the coke into Texas.
It appears that either Garcia didn’t disclose the information, it wasn’t asked, or it wasn’t significant bit there’s no mention about how much she was being paid. Almost not mentioned is what the group ordered her to move the product.
That detail would could very well open up the investigation into the other three Brownsville Port of Entry arrests.
When she was arrested on November 2, 2022, Garcia’s vehicle was pointed out for further inspection where 29.93 pounds of cocaine was discovered in 13 packages. The seizure had a street value of almost $400,000.
It was while being held by CBP that she claimed to be running cocaine for an operation in Matamoros where she resided.
