A 12-year-old Dallas boy was accused of murder following a hit-and-run incident that killed an 82-year-old woman in November 2022. Florence Kelly was at the intersection of Royal Lane and Rosser Road on the morning of November 7. That was when her vehicle was hit by Toyota Avalon.

Also in the Toyota were two girls, according to witnesses who fled the scene after the crash. Kelly died in the hospital shortly afterward. Currently, the case is still being investigated in part because of the nature of Kelly’s killer. His identity wasn’t released since he’s under 17 and is considered a juvenile in Texas.
He also falls outside of the being tried as an adult at 14 if this was considered a particularly serious case. This all means that the 12-year-old will be held in a juvenile detention center and go through hearings until it is found that he can return to his legal guardian.
As far as sentencing goes, as a juvenile, he faces a maximum of 40 years in prison but will do his early years in detention. Before the age of 19 but starting at 16, the boy will be eligible to be moved to adult prison.
