The 2022 holiday season has had a few cases of patricide and matricide and an Arizona man added another murder to the list after shooting his 80-year-old stepfather to death on Christmas. Officers from the Gilbert PD responded to a call about a car backing into a residence.
When they inspected the vehicle, they found a man inside suffering from gunshot wounds. The man—identified as an 80-year-old—was pronounced dead on the scene.

An investigation into the man’s death led them to Michael Kaser,(48) someone known to have issues with the victim. Kaser even walked up to authorities and told them “I killed my stepfather. I should have killed him a long time ago.”
While speaking to authorities, Kaser explained why he shot his father and summed it up as just being fed up and having enough of his stepfather’s alleged physical and emotional abuse. Following a Christmas outing with his parents, Kaser went to his car and returned with the gun used to kill his stepfather.
Michael Kaser also admitted to having “thought about killing [his stepfather] for 20 years and almost killed him on one previous occasion prior to this incident occurring.”
On December 26, Kaser was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one charge of homicide and a count of weapons and explosives. The court set his bond at $1 million.
