Pinellas County deputies found the victim, 56-year-old Lisa Ann Rogers with a hatchet sticking out of her head in an grisly attack. Her attacker was nowhere to be found and she was rushed to a hospital. According to authorities, the suspect’s car was spotted in Gainesville, Florida later that day.
While Rogers lingered in the hospital, Alachua County deputies pulled her attacker over on November 24 just outside of Gainesville, Florida. Michael Dougherty (40) lived in the house with Rogers and her husband but the investigation into her murder didn’t turn up a reason for the attack.
Dougherty was charged with second-degree attempted murder as Lisa Ann Rogers was still alive when he was arrested. On November 26, Rogers was pronounced dead. Before she passed, her family had decided to take her off life support as she wasn’t showing brain activity. Authorities upgraded his charge to second-degree murder.
Michael Dougherty will be held in the Alachua County Jail before being transported back to Pinellas County.
