In Seminole County, Florida, a man who allegedly murdered his ex-roommate over a stolen PlayStation 4 several years ago was found guilty of first-degree murder. Back in 2018, Jake Bilotta (then 22) and Ian McClurg stabbed former roommate Joshua Barnes to death.

Barnes had left some time prior and the duo had gotten a new roommate in that time. However, Bilotta and McClurg believed that he was responsible for a break-in where the PS4 and other items were stolen. According to McClurg, Bilotta was particularly upset over the break-in. “He was talking about hitting him [Barnes] with a kitana [katana],” said McClurg in an interview with investigators. “He was just talking about, basically like stabbing.”
Barnes was lured back to the residence and stabbed to death with what was described as a seven-inch chef knife. Bilotta and McClurg’s new roommate, Walter Johnson walked in on the duo bagging up Barnes’ body and with the knife in their possession.
According to Johnson, Bilotta said that he gave Barnes credit for putting up a fight. Johnson fled the residence and called authorities. Bilotta attempted to flee but was captured while McClurg was found hiding in the bathroom.
While Bilotta was charged with first-degree murder, McClurg was charged with accessory to murder.
