A Florida man chucked a Christmas tree at his wife during an argument on December 12, 2022. The argument was initiated after Richard Atchison (52)—who admitted to losing his temper and drinking—became infuriated that he was asked to help with dinner.

According to Lake County deputies, his wife dropped a spoon in the sink and accidentally splashed him with dishwater after asking him for help. Atchison told deputies that he had become upset and.began packing up his belongings before leaving. He intended to leave but after some drinking and thinking, he returned to their Fruitland Park residence and told his wife to leave.
She attempted to leave the residence when Atchison became physical, shoving her and throwing the Christmas tree at her, breaking it in half. Even though she’d been hit by the tree, the wife was still able to try to leave but he began blocking the front door.
Richard Atchison was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail on domestic battery, false imprisonment, and violating an injunction. The last charge stems from a protection order for a previous domestic dispute. He is currently being held on $8,000 bond.
