A Las Vegas gas thief is looking at a few felony theft charges in Kane County, Utah. It is also believed that the thief—Alexander Rodriguez Padilla (39)—was involved in fuel thefts in Utah.

The thefts Padilla was arrested for began on December 3, 2022 but the Kane County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t contacted about the thefts until December 6. The first gas station was in Mount Carmel, Utah, and was hit by the suspect at 1 AM.
Surveillance footage showed a Dodge truck and a semi-truck “with several holding tanks” situated next to a pump. The Dodge had several tanks in the bed of the truck as well.
Brazenly, the thieves returned the following day near midnight and stole 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Also on December 4, the suspects hit a Shell in Kanab and stole 1,000 gallons, according to the KCSO.
While it wasn’t explained exactly how they stole the fuel, the KCSO said that the thieves broke into the pumps, “manipulated the machinery,” and reaped free fuel.
Worth noting is that even though one additional suspect was with Padilla, authorities believe that they’re members of a larger operation that has hit up several gas stations in the state. The Kane County fuel hits totaled over $15,000.
Alexander Rodriguez Padilla was arrested on December 8 after his semi-truck was spotted at a Maverik gas station in Cedar City. The Cedar City PD held Padilla until the deputies booked him into the Kane County Jail for three counts of second-degree felony theft and three additional misdemeanors.
