Between November 8 and 18, the joint forces of authorities in Europe, the U.S, and the UAE arrested 49 drug traffickers–collectively referred to as a super cartel. Included in that bust were tens of tons of drugs and two high-value targets.
Massive Multi-National Raid Nets 49 Drug Traffickers and 30 Tons of Cocaine As Battle Against Super Cartel Continues in Europe and the UAE
This initiative saw large involvement from Europol as the super cartel—several drug kingpins working together—has a foothold throughout Western Europe. The U.S is also an obvious destination for trafficker to ship their product as well but the focus was heavily on Europe.
The smuggling operation saw cocaine brought in from South America and distributed throughout Belgium, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. A statement from Europol explained the super cartel as:
“The drugpins considered as high-value targets by Europol had come together to form what was known as a ‘super cartel’ which controlled around one third of the cocaine trade in Europe.”
In total, the bust netted 30 tons of cocaine, throwing a wrench into the cocaine trade between South America and Europe. “This coordinated clampdown sends a strong message to criminals seeking sanctuary from law enforcement,” Europol said in explaining why international cooperation worked here.
