The NYPD has arrested an individual involved in two murders that had no strong links initially: Roland Codington. There was a rush to solve this case as the murders occurred in the lead-up to the Christmas holiday.
NYPD Arrests Man Involved in Two Holiday Season Slashing Murders
The first murder happened on December 19, 2022 at 1 AM. After a stop at a bar, 51-year-old James Cunningham ran into Roland Codrington (35). From footage obtained by the NYPD, it was found that an argument occurred between the two men, and Cunningham was slashed across the throat by Codrington.
Roland Codrington’s temper would result in another murder during a late-night revenge trip on December 22. With a baseball bat and a pit bull in tow, Codrington enter a bar on the Lower East Side to settle things with workers he felt had disrespected him. After attacking the bartender and breaking some property, he stabbed two customers who stepped in to help.
Codrington would leave the bar and go to Marcus Garvey Park where he encountered 60-year-old Bruce Maurice Henry. The two got into an argument that ended in Henry being stabbed multiple times before dying from a slash across the neck. Henry was found dead after 2 AM on December 23, a day before his birthday.
He was caught on December 24, driving in Henry’s car after a lot of footwork and questioning as the second murder didn’t have footage. Roland Codrington—known to the authorities for his violent, lengthy criminal record—was charged with two count ls of murder, two counts of attempted murder, criminal mischief, and second-degree assault.
Because of the random, explosive nature of the attacks and Codrington’s past, the NYPD is looking at other unsolved stabbing deaths in the city to see if he has ties to them.
