Over two years after he shot and killed a man with an antique gun, James Adam Boyd was found guilty of first-degree murder. The shooting occurred in October 2020 when Boyd, armed with a 30-40 Krag rifle, gunned down Ted Honning.

The gun used by Boyd is supposedly a family heirloom that was used in the Spanish-American War. After killing Honning, James Adam Boyd wrapped his victim up in a carpet and dog food bags. On October 15, 2020, authorities found Honning’s body.
During the trial, his defense used self-defense as the reason behind the shooting. It was a gamble since Boyd did put in the effort to dispose of the victim as opposed to reporting it immediately. Self-defense was always going to be an uphill battle as shown by the jury returning their verdict in roughly an hour.
James Adam Boyd was guilty of not just of first-degree murder but also for evading arrest. He will be sentenced on February 23, 2023.
