In a follow-up to the big European super cartel raid, Europol mentioned two high-value targets had been arrested. Those two are Dutch drug kingpins who were arrested while living in Dubai and one of them is Edin Gacanin—also known as Tito.
Tito and Dino Cartel Boss Edin Gacanin Arrested in Dubai As Part of Raids on Super Cartel
Gacanin (40) is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is one of the notable names as far as Bosnian crime bosses branching out and expanding their operations.
In the drug trade, expansion can be extremely risky but his Tito and Dino cartel not only linked up with South American cocaine and meth materials suppliers but also based his operation out of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
This gave the Tito and Dino cartel a foothold in the Netherlands and in Peru. It also caught the attention of Dutch authorities.
During the peak of his organization’s operations, Edin Gacanin imported almost 8,000 kilograms in raw materials to make meth. In 2020, his group smuggled roughly 1,800 kilograms of coke into Hamburg, Germany with the Netherlands as its destination.
In the same way that Encrochat brought down several drug traffickers throughout 2022, Gacanin was done in by his Sky chats. “Due to the Sky chats, it is also suspected that the man was involved as organizer, broker and financier in the import of 739.5 kilos of cocaine from Durban (South Africa) to Rotterdam,” according to Dutch police.
At the time of his capture, Gacanin had made Dubai the base of his drug operations. It is unknown if he was involved in the smuggling of narcotics into UAE or if the UAE was a case of “not sh***ing where you eat”. Also, the United Arab Emirates has the death penalty for drug trafficking.
