AEW fans nearly had a mass heart attack when it looked like Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal were the ones to take the AEW World Tag Team Championships from The Acclaimed. They got a pinfall, but due to dirty tactics by Sonjay Dutt at ringside, the match would continue. Tonight, The Acclaimed need to face Lethal & Jarrett one more time to put them in the rear view mirror – this time in a No Holds Barred match. All weapons and outside interference is now legal, allowing Billy Gunn to assist The Acclaimed, but Dutt & Satnam Singh to assist Lethal & Jarrett.
Max Caster Claims Jeff Jarrett Is Worse Than Vince McMahon
On their way to the ring, Max Caster would make reference to Vince McMahon returning to WWE – but stating how Jeff Jarrett is still worse than him. Jarrett would go right after Caster as the match began, using a steel chair on the floor. Lethal & Bowens would battle up the ramp, with Lethal locking in the Figure Four Leg Lock, only for Bowens to roll him down to the ramp.
Finally getting this match in the ring, Bowens would hit a Blockbuster to Jarrett – getting a two count. Lethal would get the tag, but was quickly beaten down by Bowens in the ring before taking a double suplex from The Acclaimed for another two count. Caster would take a cheap shot at Satnam Singh, before hitting a dropkick on Lethal in the ring.
Scissor Me Timbers would be blocked by Jarrett, who shoved Bowens off the ropes. Lethal would hit the Suicide Dive to Bowens on the floor, before Jarrett caught Caster from behind with a clubbing blow. Slowing the pace down, Lethal would apply a rear chinlock in the ring, with Bowens having to fight to regain his footing.
Caster would get the tag and was able to drop Jarrett with a big superkick. Angle Slam would follow, before locking in an Ankle Lock, with those being the signature moves of Kurt Angle, a man who Jarrett was accused of stealing his wife from. Lethal would prevent the pinfall by hitting the elbow drop on the referee, only to be taken out with a lariat from Billy Gunn.
The Acclaimed Remain AEW World Tag Team Champions
Jarrett would get the guitar in hand – and was ready to put Bowens out with a shot. Gunn would make the save taking a low blow, with Bowens trying to grab the Boom Box as a backup weapon. Gunn would take the guitar of Jarrett and bash it over the head of Singh, before taking The Stroke from Jarrett.
Singh would remain standing after the guitar shot, hitting a double chokeslam on The Acclaimed before taking down a referee and steal his shirt. Dutt was given the shirt, as Lethal would hit the Lethal Injection on Bowens. Aubrey Edwards would lay down the law, ready to take Dutt down.
Bowens would hit The Arrival on Lethal before The Mic Drop from Caster, and The Acclaimed will remain the AEW World Tag Team Champions. Dutt would cry at ringside, Singh is still feral after the guitar shot, and Jarrett was taken out on the floor – with this team truly broken after this loss.
Skye Blue Unable To End The Incredible Streak Of Jade Cargill
Jade Cargill ended 2022 with a perfect 24-0 record, and already claimed her first victory for 2023 in a tag team match on AEW Dynamite. Now, she makes the first TBS Championship defence of the year as she faces the plucky underdog Skye Blue as part of Battle of the Belts V. Blue has seen immense improvement in the past year, allowing her to potentially be the 1 in a 47-1 record for Cargill.
Cargill was rightfully cocky as this match began, shoving the belt into the face of Blue. Some quick strikes from Blue would follow, able to catch Cargill off guard before a Crucifix Pinfall for a two count. Cargill would roll out of the ring to catch her breath, before squaring back up with Blue and sending her from the ring.
Blue would be chokeslammed onto the ramp, just as happy with a count out victory as any other victory with the belt on the line. Red Velvet would come down to the top of the ramp, after seemingly splitting with Cargill on AEW Dynamite. Blue would reach the ring at nine, but Cargill was ready to keep the beating coming.
Snap suplex would get a two count, before Cargill would just toy with Blue. Blue was thrown across the ring, before Cargill would do push ups in the middle of the ring. Jawbreaker would set up a flying headscissor, before the rising knee strike on the ropes. Blue would take the Big Boot from Cargill, and finally Velvet made her way to ringside.
She’d put Blue in the ring, who countered Jaded with a Victory Roll for two before the Code Blue for perhaps the closest fall of Cargill’s career. Jaded would finally land, and that’s 48-0.
