January 4th, 2019 – Kenny Omega entered the Tokyo Dome as IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and lost the belt to Hiroshi Tanahashi. That was supposed to be his final match in NJPW, as he’d go to the United States to form All Elite Wrestling. With an open spot as a top star, we’d see Will Ospreay gain new motivation, leading to him moving to the Heavyweight division and becoming IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Injuries cut that reign short, but as IWGP United States Champion – Ospreay is one of the top stars in the company… which makes Omega. He left and someone like Ospreay moved to the top? What has become of the company he helped put on a global stage? This prompted Omega to return to NJPW, as he looks to remind NJPW fans who the true “Best Bout Machine” is.

Two Once In A Generation Professional Wrestlers Clash

There was a lot of debate on which theme song Kenny Omega would use, be it his NJPW theme of Devils Sky or AEW theme of Battle Cry. Instead, he came out to the theme song of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, the namesake of One Winged Angel. Not to be outdone, Will Ospreay would bring his fan favourite theme song Elevated back to the absolute glee of fans.

The bell would ring on this dream match, and Omega would show his chain wrestling skills before a running shoulder tackle. Ospreay would spring back to his feet, before taking Omega to the floor and soaring over the top rope. Landing on top of Omega, Ospreay would do some ground and pound before sending Omega into the barricade and rolling him into the ring.

Omega would block the springboard forearm in the ring, shoving Ospreay out to the floor and into the barricade. Rolling Fireman Carry would be followed by that perfect Springboard Moonsault, with Omega looking smooth as butter in his second singles match since 2021. Omega would choke Ospreay in the corner with his boot, before Omega would remove one of the corner pads from the ring.https://theovertimer.com/2022/07/will-ospreay-calls-kenny-omega-an-old-man-threatens-to-end-him/#growSource=search

There was no way in hell that referee Red Shoes Uno throws this match out with a DQ, so he would simply have to allow the irish whip into the exposed corner. Ospreay put the breaks on, only to move into a backbreaker. Omega kept the damage coming, but Ospreay blocked the hip toss and went into the Cobra Twist.

Who Is The Best Bout Machine In 2023?

Omega was able to break free, before taking the back handspring blast kick. Springboard forearm smash would land this time, a touch less than Phenomenal so only getting a two count. Ospreay would follow Omega to the apron and look for the Stormbreaker, but not enough damage to the back to pull off that move.

Instead, Ospreay looked for the OsCutter, springing off the ring post – but crashing and burning on the apron spine first. Omega had held the top rope tight, and would proceed to put a table over Ospreay and stomp through it. This was not nearly enough to keep Ospreay down, as he’d suplex Omega onto the table.

Ospreay would head to the top rope for a breathtaking Skytwister Press to the floor. Back in the ring, Ospreay hit a flying variant of the Hidden Blade, getting a two count. OsCutter was blocked before the V-Trigger to the back of the head followed by a Poisonrana. Fisherman Buster across the knee would follow, getting Omega a two count.

Omega would hit a simple but effective forearm to the spine, before setting Ospreay on the top rope for the Avalanche Dragon Suplex. Ospreay would land on his feet and hit the Robinson Special kick before the OsCutter for a near fall. Omega was trapped in the corner for a series of Cheeky Nandos kicks, Ospreay hitting each kick harder than the last.

Kenny Omega Smells Blood In The Water

Ospreay would nail some chops by the ropes, before setting up a Avalanche Spanish Fly, with Omega using kidney punches to get free. He would look for a fatality, as Omega would hit a DDT on off the turnbuckle, a move he previously used against Naito in the G1 Climax. Ospreay was busted wide open thanks to this, and somehow got back to his feet only to be nailed with the baseball slide.

Omega would look for the Terminator Dive, crashing onto Ospreay and sticking the landing. Ospreay would have his face smashed through what remained of the table from earlier in the match, with Omega getting downright violent now that he smells blood in the water. Back in the ring, Ospreay was spiked with a piledriver, but Omega got too eager with the pinfall and Ospreay titled his shoulders up.

Omega would hit some mounted open palm strikes, before Ospreay found his feet and was dropped with the Snap Dragon Suplex. Ospreay took some knees to the ribs for the Tiger Driver ‘97 but managed to get his foot on the bottom rope. Omega would hit the V-Trigger, sending Ospreay tumbling to the floor. He’d struggle into the ring, but stumbled into the ropes to stop the dropkick from Omega.

Ospreay was unable to climb the ropes, and when he was able to get up – another DDT, this time a DDT onto the exposed steel. Omega would hit the V-Trigger driving Ospreay into the exposed steel, before the Avalanche One Winged Angel turned into Croyt’s Wrath, and rolled Ospreay into a V-Trigger.

Will Ospreay Finds A Next Level, But Still Falls To The One Winged Angel

Ospreay would take another knee strike to the face, with Omega playing with his food. The knee was blocked, and Ospreay found that next level – Omega pulling another level from Ospreay. Jabs to the face would be met with Kawada style kicks and some chops, before another V-Trigger staggered Ospreay.

He’d duck the lariat and turn it into a sit down powerbomb, before the Chelsea Grin. Hidden Blade was exposed and Ospreay took two before a Super OsCutter for a near fall. One Winged Angel would be blocked into a Styles Clash, Ospreay pulling out the move that Omega used to take control of BULLET CLUB.

Ospreay would nearly knock Omega out with another Hidden Blade, but didn’t hook the leg – and Omega kicked out. Stormbreaker was set, but Omega landed on his feet and got wrist control for a knee strike before taking the Hidden Blade. Both men were struggling for breath as Omega gained wrist control.

They’d trade blows in the middle of the ring, with Omega moving into a Straight Jacket German Suplex. Kamigoye would be set, and followed up with One Winged Angel. Kenny Omega is a two time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion and the undisputed Best Bout Machine.
