In Collin County, Texas, Burak Hezar (23) was sentenced to life in the 2021 stabbing death of his mother and sister. According to the Collin County DA’s Office, on April 24, 2021, the stepfather of Burak Hezar returned home early from a business trip. The Allen PD arrived at the house but the suspect had already fled. He was later arrested at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. In their investigation, detectives found that Hezar failed in smothering his sister, Burcu after she woke up. The two fought and he resorted to stabbing her to death. He would move on to stab his mother while she slept.
Hezar planned to fly to California and kill his father before he was stopped at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. He would later confess to the murders and be sentenced to life without parole on January 19, 2023. Collin County DA Greg Willis weighed in on Burak Hezar’s sentence:
“Burak Hezar committed one of the most heinous crimes against the very people who loved him and cared for him—his mother and sister. We hope that this sentence brings a sense of safety and justice to Isil and Burcu’s surviving family members in this very painful time.”
