As a fan of NXT, I don’t think that 2022 was the best year for the company. There were many things that they did to set the brand back, but there were a few things that we can look at to see a ray of hope for the new year.
More Experienced Wrestlers
This is a big reason why NXT took a nosedive going into 2022. Vince placed a ban on signing wrestlers off of the indies. WWE held large tryouts to sign new athletes to the company.
The issue with this was that there were too many people coming into the company that probably didn’t want to be a wrestler.
Even though they put in effort, want to learn, and want to make it, they probably don’t want it as much as the ones that actually want to be a wrestler from the start.
There is a lot of unsigned talent out there that comes almost ready made. Of course, NXT will train them to work more of the WWE style. This is how NXT became the NXT that we know and love.
Most of the wrestlers that they got during their prime days weren’t the biggest names but they already had extensive in ring experience.
A New Vision
Shawn Michaels is in charge of NXT now and it seems like he knows what he is doing. Also, rumor has it that William Regal is coming back to WWE. His role remains to be seen, but it is possible that he may go back to NXT and work with Michaels to bring up the next generation of WWE superstars.
Now, we can see the end of the NXT 2.0 era, we see many of the people who Vince wanted to be on top down there either get called up or released.
There are many interesting wrestlers in NXT and it’s time for the old guard to show what they can do on the main roster and let the new wave of talent take over and carry the brand.
These new people are also better equipped to be what Triple H want them to be. This will make the transition from NXT to the main roster much more fluid down the line.
New Brands
NXT announced the closing of NXT UK earlier this year. Most of the roster was folded into the current NXT roster.
While many fans didn’t like this, WWE did announce that in 2023, there will be a new brand or two. The first one announced is NXT Europe with a focus on a more diverse talent pool and wrestlers from all of Europe instead of just mostly the UK.
This is great news alongside the rumors that there will also probably be a NXT Japan and NXT Mexico at some point in the future.
This could be the first step to making the developmental system of NXT more global and bringing a more international flair to the main roster in the future.
