When it comes to the AEW women’s division, Hikaru Shida has been one of the most consistent names around since the start of the company. She’s a former AEW Women’s World Champion, having the longest reign in company history. However, lately she’s not been in the ring – having last wrestled on AEW TV during the episode of AEW Dark Elevation taped on December 28th, and we now know the reason why. Shida has been healing up from a minor finger injury.
Hikaru Shida Is Dealing With A Minor Finger Injury
During a recent gaming stream for her YouTube channel, Hikaru Shida would confirm that a minor injury has kept her out of the ring. When asked when she was back on AEW TV – Shida would respond with the following.
“I’m going to the show every week. To be honest, I have a little injury in my finger. It’s alright. It’s good. I can play video games. It’s alright. Maybe soon, I can wrestle.”
A Perfect Fit To Feud With Toni Storm & Saraya
We can only hope that Shida is able to recover from this injury soon. She’s been a player in the storyline involving Toni Storm & Saraya, where Saraya passed over Shida as a tag team partner for the January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite. Since then, Saraya & Storm have begun attacking AEW originals – leaning into a heel turn.
Shida will be a logical name to feud with Saraya & Storm when she is able to return to the ring – being the very definition of an AEW original much like both Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter – both of whom Shida has shared the ring with in the past. The latest major match for Shida in AEW was against Jamie Hayter over the AEW Women’s World Championship. Her last match as of the time of writing as in Pro Wrestling WAVE on January 1st.
