Gaby Assouline, the 25-year-old Florida woman who fell down a walkway at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in February 2022 has died. She suffered from a generic muscle disease that turns muscle into bone and had to use a wheelchair for mobility. While traveling to Denver, she requested assistance from Southwest Airlines employees but she and her family claims they refused to help.
Gaby Assouline the Disabled Florida Woman Injured During Southwest Flight in 2022 Does – Family Asserts Southwest Airlines is to Blame
According to the family, Gaby had to head down the bridge herself and fell from her wheelchair. She would hit her head in the fall. The family’s lawsuit against Southwest Airlines claims that the young woman was paralyzed from the neck down as a result of the fall.
Southwest Airlines has continued to contest the family’s assertion and claimed that Gaby refused assistance from staff. As expected, that didn’t sit well with Assouline’s family who was at her side when she passed on January 29, 2023. Southwest Airlines addressed Gaby Assouline’s passing in a statement:
“Southwest offers its sincere condolences to Ms. Assouline’s family, friends and all whose lives she touched. We have a more than 51-year commitment to caring for our People and Customers and remain engaged with the parties involved.”
News of Gaby’s death comes as Southwest is dealing with the aftermath of fumbling holiday travel season and the search for a new PR adviser.
