It’s been a long road back from ruin for the long standing professional wrestling promotion of Ring of Honor. After entering a phase of restructuring after Final Battle 2021, the future of the promotion was unclear until it was purchased by Tony Khan – who also owns All Elite Wrestling. They would run three successful PPV events in 2022, and would get some major exposure on AEW TV while the company’s own TV was set up. It’s set to be taped soon, and hit HonorClub on March 2nd, 2023.
Ring Of Honor TV To Be Taped At Universal Studios
During an interview with Sports Illustrated – Tony Khan would confirm the future plans of Ring of Honor, with TV tapings coming soon before the re-debut of the weekly show on March 2nd. Khan would be quoted saying the following.
“Ring of Honor TV is coming Thursday, March 2 on HonorClub. We’ll have our first tapings on Feb. 25 and 26 at Universal Studios in Orlando, and we’re going to put tickets on sale for the inaugural taping on Thursday. Those will be the first-ever tapings of the new Ring of Honor.
Ring of Honor has their next PPV set for March 31st, that being Supercard of Honor 2023, meaning that about four weeks of content will be taped over the course of two days. The show being taped at Universal Studios is a smart move by AEW, with them being used to long tapings at that event for AEW Dark. However, it’s also giving some cause for concern – as AEW Dark tapings are hardly high energy, even for bigger matches.
Big Card With All Champions Are Expected For The Tapings
We can expect a big card for these first Ring of Honor tapings, with all the champions on hand. The ROH World Tag Team Championships will likely be addressed as well, as currently the champions are The Briscoes – despite the recent death of Jay Briscoe. Mark Briscoe has carried both belts on AEW TV, but that is unlikely to last much longer.
With former two time ROH World Champion RUSH in action on AEW Dynamite against current champion Claudio Castagnoli, that seems like a headliner match for the taping – being a first time ever match up. Samoa Joe remains the ROH World Television Champion and is expected to be on the tapings. Other ROH champions include Athena, Brian Cage & Gates of Agony, and Wheeler Yuta.
