An Indiana scam tag team was arrested on January 26, 2023, after they were accused of lowering product prices in a General Dollar store. For readers outside of the U.S, General Dollar is a discount store and the pricier of the three big dollar stores with Family Dollar being in the middle and Dollar Tree offering everything for $1 or a dollar and change via delivery.
The Evansville PD showed up to the store after getting a call about two employees stealing from the store. In speaking store staff, the police found that Amber Smith (23) and Katelyn Wells (19) dropped prices on many store items then purchased them for the low.

The store manager told the Evansville PD that the store lost over $6,000 at the hands of the disruptive discount duo. To be precise, Wells made off with $4,600 in goods while Smith stole $1,700. Police went to question the two but Wells refused to talk with them about the accusations.
Smith would break first but said that she lowered prices and took goods because other Dollar General employees were doing it as well. Wells would later join Smith in submitting written statements confessing to dropping prices in the store. Both were arrested and charged with theft but left the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Both Dollar General and the Evansville PD believe there were more involved in price tampering and theft. There is an ongoing investigation into the situation.
