This past Sunday at AEW Revolution, Wardlow was able to take down Samoa Joe to regain the TNT Championship – able to choke out the self proclaimed King of Television. However, that was just the start of Wardlow’s big week, as his first challenger was watching on eagerly. Powerhouse Hobbs earned his shot by winning the Face of the Revolution ladder match – and tonight, cashes in his shot. Three days is not a lot of time to rest, and Wardlow is at risk of having the shortest TNT Championship reign in history.
Earlier in the night, Wardlow called for Falls Count Anywhere rules – promising mayhem. His gear and the TNT Championship were stolen by someone who broke into his car, so he was not dressed for a normal match – but wearing an FTR shirt and some pants, was dressed for a street fight.
Starting In The Parking Lot And Spilling Into The Ring
This match would start in the parking lot, with Hobbs using the Golden Ring that he claimed in the Face of the Revolution ladder match. They would battle by the car of Hobbs, with Wardlow being driven into the door. Hobbs would throw a keg, cracking the window as Wardlow avoided this. Wardlow was suplexed onto the hood of the car, before Hobbs was dropped back first onto the windshield.
Hobbs would use some pallets to hold himself up – before being whipped into some cardboard boxes. They’d fight into a trailer, slamming each other off the steel walls, before Hobbs was thrown through a wall. Wardlow would not get the knockout win, with Hobbs able to find his feet. A steel chair would be used by both men, slamming off their backs.
They’d make their way out to the crowd – with Hobbs thrown over the barricade into the ringside area. Despite this being a Falls Count Anywhere, it can end in the ring. Hobbs would hit the Spinebuster, with Wardlow popping right back up to his feet. Wardlow would hit a headbutt and the Wind Up lariat – before an F10 for a two count.
QT Marshall Assists Powerhouse Hobbs With Claiming TNT Championship
Hobbs would hit a second spinebuster followed by a third, getting a near fall in the middle of the ring. A table would be set up by Hobbs at ringside, after throwing Wardlow into the crowd. Wardlow would spit water into the face of Hobbs to set up on the table, before channelling his childhood hero Jeff Hardy and coming off the top rope with a Swanton Bomb.
Somehow Hobbs was able to kick out, but was quickly hit with a powerbomb onto the ramp. Wardlow would look for a powerbomb off the stage, only for QT Marshall to hit a low blow before smashing Wardlow with the steel chair. Hobbs was to be handed the victory by QT Marshall, hitting a double powerbomb off the ramp for the KO victory.
In 2022, Hobbs would start an alliance with Marshall – who said his word was his bond. Now, Marshall has helped Hobbs become the NEW TNT Champion – ending Wardlow’s reign at just 3 days. With a veteran like Marshall in his corner, Hobbs is more dangerous than ever – and has the gold to prove it.
