At Extreme Rules 2022, we would see the long awaited return of Bray Wyatt to WWE. Originally released from the company in 2021 following his WrestleMania 37 loss to Randy Orton, it was only a matter of time before Wyatt was able to make his return to the company. Since then, he’s been weaving more intricate lore for his character, namely involving the mysterious Uncle Howdy. However, while he was originally set to be involved with WrestleMania 39 – that has now changed.
Bray Wyatt Off WrestleMania 39 Card Due To Physical Issue
Earlier today, it was reported that Bray Wyatt was pulled from last nights WWE live event at Madison Square Garden. He was billed to appear for the event, but was nowhere to be found. This was since followed up by reports that Wyatt is currently not factored into WWE creative plans due to being out with an ‘undisclosed physical issue’.
It has not been outright stated that this is an injury, but the wording has led many to jump to that conclusion. Rumours of creative issues were also circulating as a reason why Wyatt is no longer factored into WrestleMania 39 – but sources within WWE have denied this. Creative issues have been a common trend with Wyatt in the past, often having a big vision for his characters that WWE management struggle to get behind.
The Original WrestleMania Opponent For Brock Lesnar?
Originally, it looked as if we would see Wyatt take on either Bobby Lashley or Brock Lesnar at the event – with a match between Lesnar & Wyatt being something that has been rumoured for years now for various WrestleMania events. Given the rushed nature of Lesnar’s feud with Omos ahead of WrestleMania 39, it seems highly likely that Wyatt was his original opponent – with the physical issues of Wyatt changing plans.
Wyatt had called out both Lashley & Lesnar ahead of Elimination Chamber – but that storyline was never followed up on. It’s possible it’s picked back up later in the year, with a match at Money In The Bank or Summerslam providing another big stage for the next Wyatt spectacle.
