When Tony Khan purchased Ring of Honor, it kicked off a new era for the company – and gave it deep links to AEW. Tonight, we see two major names from the ROH brand on AEW Dynamite, as ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli faces ROH World Tag Team Champion Rey Fenix.

Being dubbed as a Double Jeopardy match, someone will leave with a title shot. If Castagnoli defeats Fenix, him and a partner of his choice will challenge the Lucha Bros – while Fenix could earn a future World Championship match.

Claudio Castagnoli & Rey Fenix Start Dynamite With A Bang

Castagnoli would quickly force Fenix into the corner, using his power edge over the luchador. Fenix would get some space and dive onto Castagnoli, only to be caught into a backbreaker. Castagnoli would take a series of kicks in the corner, before Fenix sent him to the floor with a springboard hurricanrana.

Fenix would hit a set of dives on Castagnoli, but a third dive was too much – allowing him to be caught into a press slam. Castagnoli would throw Fenix onto the guard rail, before trying to carry him into the ring using a suplex. Fenix would be able to counter this, and hit a jawbreaker using the barricade.

Fenix would walk along the tightrope that is the steel barricade, before jumping into a hurricanrana on Castagnoli. Back in the ring, Castagnoli would manage a snap powerslam, getting a two count. Wheeler Yuta & Bryan Danielson were watched from backstage, allowing Castagnoli to handle business his way.

Castagnoli would try for a press slam off the top rope, with Fenix again able to take control with a hurricanrana. Fenix would manage a near fall, before being sent to the floor. Castagnoli would chuck Fenix over the barricade onto concrete, and was ready to accept the count out victory.

Blackpool Combat Club Earn Title Shot – Miro Returns To AEW

Not wanting to quit, Fenix would make the ring by nine – only to be quickly stomped and sent to the floor. Castagnoli would allow Fenix to again pull himself into the ring, before applying an arm lock in the middle of the ring. Fenix would refuse to tap out, and was thrown into the corner for a jumping elbow smash.

Castagnoli would run shoulder first into the corner as Fenix managed to dodge, only to rip Fenix off the middle rope with a Gutwrench Suplex.

Fenix would kick out at 2.5, before trading strikes with Castagnoli. The kicks of Fenix would beat the uppercuts of Castagnoli, before a rolling cutter got a near fall.

Ricola Bomb would be countered into the Code Red, getting Fenix his closest fall of the night – but was not enough to beat the ROH World Champion.

A hook kick would be followed up with a superkick, but Castagnoli was again able to survive. Alpamare Waterslide would land, setting up the Hammer & Anvil elbows.

Finally, Fenix was weakened for the Ricola Bomb – and the Blackpool Combat Club get a chance to claim the ROH World Tag Team Championships. Castagnoli can pick between Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, or Bryan Danielson for his title shot.

Following this match, we’d see the return of Miro – finally back on AEW TV. Renee Paquette would try to get a word, only for Miro to blow her off and stomp into the office of Tony Khan. What is coming from Miro in AEW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
