Orange Cassidy has been one of the most active champions in televised professional wrestling history. With 21 defences of the AEW International Championship, Cassidy is starting to feel the strain of a workhorse reign with every match.
Tonight, NJPW star Kyle Fletcher looks to prove he’s not just a tag team specialist, as he looks to take a singles championship. Having just vacated two sets of Tag Team Championships due to an injury, Fletcher is extremely determined to get a victory.
Orange Cassidy Survives To Reign Another Day
Fletcher would rush into Cassidy quick with a kick as the match began, before a sheer drop brainbuster for a near fall. Cassidy would float over the ropes and to the apron, only to be kicked to the floor and driven into the barricade. Fletcher would score another near fall after a lariat, before heading up top to taunt.
Cassidy would shove Fletcher onto the apron, and as Fletcher found his footing – he’d be dropped with a diving DDT from Cassidy. Beach Break on the floor would follow – with Cassidy hoping for a count out victory. He would not get that lucky, and Fletcher would nail a superkick in the ring for another near fall.
Cassidy would be lifted into a delayed suplex, with Fletcher showing his power before driving him down hard to the mat for another near fall.
Fletcher would have to play cat and mouse with Cassidy, who was having a hard time keeping up at this stage of the match. Finally catching Cassidy, Fletcher would nail a Half & Half Suplex – but Cassidy had time to recover.
Stundog Millionaire would be the counter to another brainbuster, getting Cassidy a near fall. Swinging DDT would set up a diving crossbody, with Fletcher catching and spiking Cassidy with the Michinoku Driver. Brainbuster from Cassidy would land, but he’d be unable to follow up.
Ducking a superkick, Cassidy would hit one of his own before taking a Tombstone Piledriver. Fletcher would set up a second jumping Tombstone – but Cassidy somehow survived. A top rope Michinoku Driver would follow, but Cassidy still kicked out.
The Grimstone Driver from Fletcher was blocked into a DDT – and the Orange Punch was countered – but a cross legged roll up ensured Cassidy remains champion.
Jay White Is Not Done With Ricky Starks
Cassidy next defends at Double or Nothing, as he enters the Blackjack Battle Royale. Last week on AEW Dynamite, Ricky Starks gladly took a DQ loss to Jay White – bashing him with a steel chair, and sending Bullet Club Gold running to the hills.
Tonight, we will hear from Starks – as we figure out what the next step in their feud will be. With Double Or Nothing fast approaching – Starks intends to move past this, and enters the Battle Royale himself.
Starks is refocusing his energy to become a champion – and will beat 21 men to leave as champion. White & Robinson would attack during the interview, with Robinson throwing Starks into a road case before White slammed him with a steel chair.
White would say that while Starks might be done with them, they’re not done with him – and we can expect them in the Battle Royale as well.
Mark Briscoe Is Sick Of FTR & Jay Lethal’s Bullshit
FTR has a tall task ahead of them at Double Or Nothing. They will be defending the AEW World Tag Team Championships against a legend in Jeff Jarrett and a future legend in Jay Lethal. Adding to the troubles is that there is a special guest referee in the form of Mark Briscoe.
Briscoe has been pulled in two seperate ways by Lethal & FTR, but intends to call things right down the middle – despite a stray piledriver from Dax Harwood on a recent episode of Dynamite. Tonight, we’ll hear from FTR ahead of this match.
FTR know the history of Jarrett, and recognize what he’s doing. He’s struggling to be relevant, and has attached his name to FTR to try to stick around. They refuse to fall to some Impact Wrestling rejects, and once they’re done with him? He will need to call Dixie Carter for a job.
Mark Briscoe would come to the ring said while he respects FTR after their wars in 2022, he needs to know what that piledriver was about. Harwood tried to explain himself, but only escalated the situation. Briscoe slapped out Harwood, then Sonjay Dutt, Jeff Jarrett, and said that he’s tired of Lethal’s bullshit.
Will Mark Briscoe determine the fate of the AEW World Tag Team Championships? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
