Since aligining with QT Marshall to become the TNT Champion, Powerhouse Hobbs has been taking down challengers left and right.
Rey Fenix, Penta El Zero Miedo & Christopher Daniels have all fallen to Hobbs – and tonight, an ROH Legend tries his chances.
In his hometown, Silas Young looks to prove why his nickname is ‘The Last Real Man’, as this former ROH World Television Champion brings the fight to Hobbs.
Wardlow Sends A Clear Message To Powerhouse Hobbs, BULLET CLUB Gold Explains Their Actions
Young would waste no time hitting some forearm smashes – only to be planted with a major spinebuster. Torture Rack Driver would follow, and Young was already down for the count. Hobbs is in the prime of his career, unlike Young – and it shows.
In the parking lot, we’d see the car that was gifted to Hobbs by QT – and former TNT Champion Wardlow knew what it meant to Hobbs. He’d first use a baseball bat, before just flipping it with a forklift. Hobbs would look to powerbomb Young off the stage, but Wardlow was there to stop him – with Aaron Solow instead being send flying through a table.
Following this, we’d hear from Jay White & Juice Robinson. They are the high rollers of BULLET CLUB – and Ricky Starks is right in their sights. White is the Catalyst of Professional Wrestling, and his run in AEW starts as he deals with The Absolute One.
After all, Starks is flying high after two wins over Chris Jericho – a perfect target for someone looking to make an impact. Together with Robinson, they’re BULLET CLUB Gold – and they’re here to stay.
Buddy Matthews Targets The Hurt Hand Of Cassidy
Last week on AEW Dynamite, Best Friends & Orange Cassidy were unable to claim the AEW World Trios Championships from House of Black.
This was just their latest failed attempt, but Cassidy has to brush himself off as it’s time to defend his AEW International Championship now.
Cassidy has been one of the most dominant singles champions in AEW history, but his rapid pace of defences has been catching up to him – and the hard hitting Buddy Matthews could finally be the man to cut Cassidy down, and win his first singles gold in AEW.
Matthews would be sent from the ring with a headscissor takedown, but was quickly back in to avoid a dive. A shotgun dropkick would send Matthews to the floor a second time, before the dive landed.
Crossbody splash in the ring would be caught into a powerbomb attempt, with Cassidy countering before being thrown into the corner. Swinging DDT would set up the Orange Punch – and Cassidy got all of it… using his injured hand.
Matthews would be quick to stomp the hand, before taking Cassidy to the floor and whipping it off the steel steps. The ringside doctor was ready to call this, but Cassidy wanted to keep fighting. Matthews took this as an invitation, and would brutalise the hand of Cassidy using the turnbuckle.
Orange Cassidy Relies On His Wrestling As His Punching Fails
Cassidy would avoid a Brainbuster but the DDT was blocked by Matthews. They’d battle on the apron, with Matthews nailing a pumping knee strike to the jaw.
Cassidy would lift Matthews into the Beach Break, crushing him down on the hardest part of the ring. It was almost a double count out, but both men managed to get into the ring.
Forearm smashes were traded in the middle of the ring, before Matthews would simply cut Cassidy down with some kicks before stomping the hand. Cassidy put his hands in his pockets in a defiant way, only to be dropped with a big knee strike. Matthews would try to finish Cassidy off, but took the Stundog Millionaire.
Cassidy would catch Matthews on the top rope, and took him down with a top rope DDT. A Satellite DDT would follow, before a diving DDT for the near fall. Cassidy woulds set up one last Orange Punch, but instead took a knee strike.
Whale Hunt was blocked into a roll up, before Cassidy hit the Orange Punch – only getting a two count. Matthews would ask for another but Cassidy couldn’t do it.
Pop up knee strike would follow, and Cassidy would take the Curb Stomp – somehow only getting too. Whale Hunt was blocked into the Mouse Trap – and Cassidy remains champion!
