Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland were once AEW World Tag Team Champions, but had a very messy split after losing their belts. Swerve tried to take Lee out of the ring for good, but only managed to leave a scar.
Now, they find themselves teaming once again in the Blind Draw Tag Team tournament. With a title shot waiting at the end, and a first round match against Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin – can they get on the same page and show their greatness once again?
Swerve In Our Glory Reunites For Blind Draw Tag Team Tournament
Before the match, Allin would poke at the ego of Lee – telling him to prove he’s a champion level talent again. If that means winning this match without the help of Swerve – then he should do it. Lee called this a ballsy move on the part of Allin, but ultimately a dumb one.
Allin would start the match with Lee, and was instantly thrown across the ring with a massive biel toss. Lee would try for the Supernova – but Allin slipped off the shoulders and tagged in Cassidy. Cassidy would stand with Lee in the middle of the ring before being crushed by the Grizzly Magnum double chop.
Lee would corner Cassidy, who asked him to wait before putting his hands in his pockets and talking the Grizzly Magnum again.
Allin would get the tag before he would work with Cassidy for a fast flurry of blows to send Lee into a tag to Swerve. Lee would go prone in the ring, and Swerve launched off his back for a kick.
Swerve & Allin would pick up the pace in the ring, but the damage from his clash with Lee caused Allin to lose ground quickly.
Allin would be sent into the ring post ribs first, thrown from the ring and landing on the floor. Swerve would wait to attack and tried for a suplex, but Allin countered with the Scorpion Death Drop.
Cassidy would get the tag, and hit a lazy elbow drop – before bringing Swerve back into the corner. Some stiff strikes would follow from Allin, but Swerve would get Allin to his corner. Lee was tagged in, but would tag out by chopping Swerve in the chest.
Darby Allin Comes Back From Near Defeat To Pin Swerve Strickland
Swerve would set up a superplex on Allin, but Lee tagged himself in and added some speed by hitting a powerbomb on Swerve. Allin would roll into a tag to Cassidy, who tried to dive onto Lee – but was caught in mid-air using as a bearhug. On the floor, Allin would be trapped under the steel steps by Swerve, with Cassidy breaking free to take Swerve down.
Lee would stop Allin from being freed, blocking an Orange Punch from Cassidy before putting him on his back. He’d walk up the step, crushing Allin before tossing Cassidy into the ring.
Swinging DDT would be blocked, but Cassidy would keep fighting to get a Stunner. Allin dove in with the Code Red, and Cassidy got a pinfall.
Swerve tried to break up the pinfall with a 450 Splash, but only got Lee – and wasn’t unhappy with this. Lee would rise and Swerve would launch Cassidy onto his shoulders. Attempting to hit their tag team finisher, Cassidy would duck as Lee threw a rolling elbow – taking Swerve down.
Allin applied The Last Supper – and the Swerve In Our Glory reunion is over. After the bell, Swerve would walk off, while Lee showed respect to Allin & Cassidy. Nothing in that match with them was personal, he simply was handling business.
Following this match – we’d see a vignette of the upcoming debut of 18 year old Nick Wayne. Allin would detail his rise in the industry, being the son of Buddy Wayne, and in a ring since he was 8 years old. When Buddy passed away, Allin would take him under his wing – and offered him an AEW contract at 16. Now he’s coming to AEW very soon.
The Acclaimed Start Their Hunt For Trios Gold
The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass intend to become the next AEW World Trios Champions, despite falling short at Double or Nothing. Tonight, they look to get a trios match on AEW Dynamite – as they face The Blade and Canada’s own Bollywood Boyz.
Best known for their time in WWE alongside Jinder Mahal, they’re tag team specialists with speed and technical skills – while The Blade is one of the hardest hitters in AEW.
Gunn would start things off with Blade, hitting a haymaker of a right hand. Caster tagged in for a double shoulder tackle, before taking down everyone on the opposing team with scoop slams. Bowens would hit Scissor Me Timbers – before The Bollywood Boyz would regain control.
A diving elbow smash would land, before Gurv would hit some mounted punches. Blade would tag in for some quick strikes before a double suplex from the Bollywood Boyz. Caster would drop Blade with a lariat, and made the tag to Bowens.
Bollywood Boyz would be cut down by Bowens – before Gunn tagged in. One & Only would land, and Caster finished things off with The Mic Drop. Can The Acclaimed defeat House of Black on their next attempt? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
