Being a second generation professional wrestler can be an easy path to success – but never a certain one. You still need to put in the work, and show you’re able to meet the higher expectations.
One name who has been slowly improving is Brian Pillman Jr, the son of 90’s wrestling loose cannon, Brian Pillman. We’ve seen him in Ohio Valley Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling, and WWE could be his next home.
Brian Pillman Recently Left AEW, Spotted At The Performance Center This Week
Fans would recently notice that Pillman was removed from the AEW roster page. It would be confirmed that his contract came to an end, and there was no agreement on a renewal. Pillman had been off TV for extended periods of time, and after the end of AEW Dark – was barely used on the roster.
Following this, Pillman would be seen at the WWE Performance Center on 07/13 – with this confirmed by both Dave Meltzer & Sean Ross Sapp.
Someone being at the Performance Center doesn’t always ensure they are signed, but is generally the first step. Pillman is a good fit for the company, given his age, skills and family legacy.
Rising Stars Like Pillman Can Thrive In WWE
His in-ring style failed to have him stand out in the workrate heavy landscape of AEW, but would be a welcome fit in the more storytelling focused WWE.
Should he sign with WWE, we can expect him to have a stint on the NXT brand, like other recent signees in NJPW’s Karl Fredericks (now Eddy Thorpe) and ROH’s Dragon Lee.
Pillman has all the foundations of a fantastic wrestler, and WWE might be the structure he needs to reach his full potential.
For all it’s strengths, AEW is a company without a solid structure for newer wrestlers, and for every success story like Powerhouse Hobbs & HOOK – we have a Brian Pillman & Brock Anderson.
This will come in time, but without a clear developmental system in place – AEW will be more focused on bringing in pre-established talent.
We can expect this to change as AEW ages, but right now, WWE & NJPW are the best place to get your foundation in professional wrestling.
