So far, 2022 has been one of the the best years of Will Ospreay’s career. He got to be in the main event in the legendary Tokyo Dome, having one of his best matches ever with Kazuchika Okada. Ospreay would quickly follow this up with another perfect match in York Hall in the UK against Micheal Oku, and is now feeling a bit cocky. After tweeting out an image containing Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi & Toshiaki Kawada with the caption ‘The chase begins’, Kenny Omega was quick to fire back.
Kenny Omega Knows The Difference Between A Big Time Show, And A Low Pressure One
Never one to let Ospreay rest on Twitter, Kenny Omega would have a quick response for the rising star in response to being mentioned.
“Keep sending your fan cam footage of your 0 pressure indies and you might just pull it off. I’d do the same for some EZ 5’s but I understand the difference between what an Arena/Dome/Budokan main event means compared to when you play with your mates a few blocks over at York Hall”
This is all in reference to the match with Oku getting five stars from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer newsletter. This is the 18th time Ospreay has gotten at least five stars in a match, and his second time getting that rating from York Hall. Meanwhile, Kenny Omega has 19 and Okada has 22. The chase truly is on, but Ospreay & Omega could add to each other’s count.
A Potentially Huge Match Coming For Will Ospreay?
When it comes to big matches for Will Ospreay, a match with Kenny Omega is likely high on his list. They’ve only met once in singles action, but have a five star encounter from 2018 – as Ospreay teamed with Hiroshi Tanahashi to take on Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi. Their sole singles match came in 2015 for Pro Wrestling Guerilla, before either man hit their prime years.
Right now, Omega is on the shelf healing up some nagging injuries. But with Ospreay coming back to the United States later this year for a big NJPW show in Chicago, we could finally see them bring this growing Twitter feud to the ring.
