Before even airing the new season of The Masked Singer, one masked singer has already caused a stir as former New York mayor and Donald Trump legal advisor Rudy Giuliani unmasked!
Two “The Masked Singer” Judges Walk Off as Rudy Giuliani Unmasks During Season Premiere Tapings
In a report from Deadline, it was revealed that Rudy Giuliani was one of the masked contestants in season seven of the show. As a matter of fact, he was the first eliminated. Once he unmasked, it was said that judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke walked off in protest.
The remaining panelists Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy stayed on and did the post-elimination talk with Giuliani. Fans of the show will have to wait until the March 9 season premiere to find out what tune got the former mayor voted off.
If you’ve never seen or heard of The Masked Singer, it’s a competition show where masked celebrities sing for a panel of judges. The weakest performance obviously leads to an elimination where they must unmask—resulting in a big shock every episode.
Jimmy Kimmel and Others Fire Off on Giuliani Appearance
Rudy Giuliani fits the seventh season’s theme of “The Good, The Bad, and The Cuddly”. This didn’t sit well with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel of Jimmy Kimmel Live. In a monologue on the February 3 episode of his show, he voiced his disbelief that Fox would have the Trump legal advisor on the primetime show. One quotable includes:
“Only Rudy Giuliani would try to overthrow the government, break wind loudly in court, sweat hair dye all over one press conference, have another one next to a dildo store, and then try to rehabilitate his image by singing ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’ dressed as a pineapple.”
Fellow comedians and talk show hosts Trevor Noah and Stephen Colbert also roasted the notion of the controversial former mayor simply popping up on a competition show. You can check Jimmy Kimmel’s full segment above.
