Long-time Microsoft executive Phil Spencer will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the D.I.C.E Awards. Spencer has pretty much been a Microsoft lifer, starting with the company in 1988. A lot of his work early on was in developing Microsoft’s push towards CD-ROM which resulted in programs many used during the 90s such as Encarta and Picture It.

He would move on to a role as GM over Microsoft’s gaming wing that dealt with European developers. His progress through Microsoft Studios would see him eventually become CEO of Microsoft Gaming just a few weeks ago on January 22. While he has done a ton for Microsoft on the gaming front as far as acquisitions, his main contribution has been in the development and marketing of the Xbox brand which has resulted in it becoming a household name alongside PlayStation and Nintendo despite being the youngest of the three.
The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences president Meggan Scavio said the following of Phil Spencer:
“Phil Spencer has demonstrated both passion and leadership throughout his entire career at Microsoft. He’s responsible for countless impactful and pivotal initiatives that have reverberated throughout the entire gaming industry. On behalf of the Academy’s Board of Directors, we are looking forward to celebrating Spencer’s important impact on video game history by presenting him with our Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Bethesda Game Studios executive producer and Academy Hall of Famer Todd Howard will I duct Phil Spencer on February 24. You can catch the ceremony and the D.I.C.E Awards on IGN at 11/10 PM Central or 8 PM Pacific.
