For the last couple of months, Austin Theory has been learning about ruthless aggression and doing what’s unexpected at Mr. McMahon’s elbow, and it looks like he’s going to shift into an instigator role.
It’s been rumored for a couple of weeks that Vince McMahon will see his first in ring action since 2010 when he and Pat McAfee lock horns.
Given Vince is 76 years old, it seems unlikely he’ll be in a match unless it’s a tag match or handicap if at all. But it’s a choice for him to make and he could very well pull it off.
While fans don’t seem to be interested in the idea, the WWE could throw a couple of twists into it to mix it up.
Setting it in motion
On this past WWE Raw, Vince and Austin were discussing Vince appearing on Pat McAfee’s podcast this Thursday.
Austin ran down McAfee’s accomplishments and recapped that during Vince’s last interview he slapped the papers out of the interviewer’s hands.
This opened the door for Austin to appear concerned as he talked about what would’ve happened had the interviewer come after him for that and offered to be there if McAfee did just that.
Vince told him it’s not that type of interview and left, to which Austin smiled and said it could be.
So, it appears the plans for Vince and McAfee’s feud to start on the podcast are in place as Austin has something planned. Then they’ll be off to the races for WrestleMania.
Booker T’s support
While the fans may be lukewarm at best, one of Vince’s former talents that still has strong ties to WWE voiced his support.
Special thanks to @wrestling_mpw for the transcript.
“I read Vince would be part of a storyline at WrestleMania 38. I don’t know what that actually means, but if Vince were to lace them up and get back in the ring at 76, it would definitely be something that men should be inspired to see.
“I say it all the time, ‘How are you going to tell a man he can’t do it anymore?’ How are you going to tell a man, ‘You’re just too damn old. Just stay at the house and don’t ever come out.’
“I can respect Vince if he was to be thinking about going out and having a match because it’s his company. Sometimes you say, ‘Man, I have to lead by example. I have to show these young guys how to do it.’ Whether that’s wise or not, that’s how we think.”
Booker has a point, and we’re curious what’s going to come of this storyline. What kind of twists can we expect on McAfee’s show? Let us know in the comments below.
