Last year, fans were sceptical about a certain match on the card for Wrestlemania 37. International music superstar Bad Bunny was set to wrestle alongside Damien Priest to take on The Miz & John Morrison. This ended up being a major highlight on the show, but the match was almost very different.
Triple H Was All That Kept Rey Mysterio From Replacing Damien Priest
While speaking on the Masked Man Show, Damien Priest would say that Rey Mysterio would nearly be chosen over him as the tag team partner of Bad Bunny. Priest had the following to say.
“His original partner was Rey Mysterio. Well, I was the original partner, but it was like, ‘Maybe he’s not ready or what if this is too much pressure for him, we don’t know.’ It was talked about that Rey would be the guy. When they told me that, I wasn’t even mad. I was like, ‘that makes sense.’ I got it, I wasn’t even upset. If I was in their shoes, 100%, that would have been the way to go.
Hunter went to bat for me. He was like, ‘I’m sorry they even told you that it’s not going to be you now. I’m going to go have a conversation.’ He explained why I should be trusted. I wasn’t in the meeting, but I’m guessing that’s what he would have done. ‘I trust him. Let’s trust him. He’s going to be fine.’ ‘Okay, let’s go with Priest.’ It’s crazy how it worked out.
At Wrestlemania 37, Bad Bunny & Damien Priest would get the win over The Miz & John Morrison.
No Path To Wrestlemania 38
Right now, Damien Priest is not on the card for either night of Wrestlemania 38. Fans were hopeful that he would get on the card while challenging Finn Balor for the WWE United States Championship. Sadly, this match just 48 hours out from Wrestlemania 38 is not in the works.
Damien Priest has proven over the past year to be a top talent on Monday Night RAW, and could be a potential challenger for the WWE Unified World Championship following the event.
