Five of the eight spots in the men’s Owen Hart Memorial Cup are full, and tonight we’ll find out the sixth man in this tournament. We have two tag team specialists, with Bobby Fish & Jeff Hardy. Fish is looking to join Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly in the field, while Jeff Hardy is looking to get his first singles win in AEW.
He’s got a chance to be the only man in the tournament who actually shared a ring with Owen Hart, and wrestled on the Owen Hart Tribute Show back in May of 1999. Having shared a locker room with Owen, Jeff knows him better than anyone else in this tournament – and seeks to do him proud tonight.
Jeff Hardy Advances To The Owen Hart Memorial Cup
This is the first singles match of Jeff Hardy since joining AEW, but as a former WWE, Impact Wrestling, & World Heavyweight Champion – he’s got the skills to back his status up. A big hip toss would land on Fish, before Hardy drove Fish face first into the corner. Fish would be able to come back with a Dragon Screw Leg Whip, before a sliding lariat for a near fall.
Fish would miss a floating senton, before Hardy slipped outside. Another Dragon Screw landed, this one sending Hardy into the barricade as well as hurting the leg. Hardy would fight back with some big right hands, before being dumped into the ring. Matt Hardy would mouth off to Fish, before Jeff was hit with some mounted strikes in the ring.
An inside cradle from Jeff got a one count, before he’d manage to drop Fish with a big kick. Jawbreaker was blocked with a knee strike, but Jeff Hardy was persistent and hit it on a second attempt. Fish was dropped with a back elbow, before the leg drop to the groin and a basement dropkick. Twist Of Fate landed, and Jeff started the climb to the top rope.
Fish got to his feet in time to chop the legs of Hardy out with a kick, before hitting an Avalanche Falcon Arrow for a near fall. He’d apply the heel hook, before Hardy found the bottom rope. Hardy nailed Whisper In The Wind and a Swanton Bomb for the win. After the match, Matt & Nick Jackson hit the ring and had a standoff with The Hardy Boyz – a sign of things to come.
Blackpool Combat Club Unites Before Wheeler Yuta Heads To Japan
Blackpool Combat Club have been proving to be perhaps the greatest trio in AEW, and fans keep demanding to see more and more of them. Tonight, they cross pathes with the Andrade Family Office, with Angelico, The Butcher & The Blade all stepping up to the plate. Angelico is fresh back from injury with a lot to prove, and defeating the unit of Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Bryan Danielson tonight would be the biggest win of his AEW career.
Butcher, Blade & Angelico didn’t start this one in the ring, with Butcher jumping Moxley starting a draw. Blade would focus on Danielson in the ring before Angelico tried to showcase his submission skills. Danielson would fight free and hit some heavy kicks in the corner – before a running kick to the face. Yuta would get the tag, and hit a crisp arm drag in the middle of the ring.
He’d be met by Butcher who absorbed the dropkick and nailed a low crossbody before chucking Yuta across the ring. Yuta would get isolated in the AFO corner, before being beaten down with a double strike by Blade & Butcher. He’d kick out before one, and fired up that nasty temper of his – before Butcher chucked him around the ring.
Yuta chucked Butcher with a German Suplex, 270lbs dumped on his head. Moxley got the tag and ran Blade out of the ring in seconds, before running him around the ring. Blade was hit with a cutter in the ring, before Butcher drove Moxley into the ring post. Angelico made the tag before Danielson hit a dropkick and stomped his head in.
